Big Sky Retreat - beautiful accommodation and luxury yurt glamping

At Big Sky, we offer luxury yurt glamping in our two beautiful yurts and two double rooms in our lovely renovated old school house.

The Yurts

Big Sky’s yurts were custom-made by Jaia Tipis and Yurts from Golden Bay, using a traditional, hand-crafted design. They are insulated with natural wool, and the wood used to make the yurts is grown sustainably – with none of it chemically treated.

Our Yurts are named Sirius and Canopus - after the two brightest stars we can see in the Southern Hemisphere. On a good night, our night sky and star gazing is second to none.

Both Yurts have their own bathrooms. Sirius has electricity and is located close to Smokie D’s shack, while Canopus is off the grid, but has a cosy fire and solar lights. It is about 150 metres from the main house. Both yurts are very private and each have their own bathroom located close to each Yurt.

The House

Originally the old Duvauchelle school hall, the house was relocated 20 years ago to our site. The house has been tastefully renovated and has a large open-plan space with two lounge areas, a dining table, and a new kitchen.

There is a heat pump and wood burner for this space. One of the double bedrooms is off the main hall, with the other downstairs. Both bedrooms have their own bathroom.

A large north-facing deck wraps around the house and it has multiple outdoor seating areas.

Outdoor areas

There are so many places to gather, you will be spoilt for choice.

Central to Big Sky is Smokie D’s BBQ shack - this is the perfect place to come together to prepare meals and enjoy your time together.

Guests can use a gas BBQ and there is also a kitchen in the shack. There is a lovely outdoor area with a sun umbrella and of course, there is Smokie D’s shack which you can use to share meals.
