Stargazing

One of the beautiful things about Big Sky is just that… the big sky.

Sharing our sky was something we wanted to do, but an understanding of our galaxy was needed before we could talk about it. We flew up to the Wairarapa to undertake a Stargazing course at Stonehenge Aotearoa, New Zealand’s unique open air astronomical observatory. (read more about this on our blog).

The best stargazing occurs on 39-43 degrees latitude – conveniently New Zealand’s latitude is 41 degrees, meaning we are able see the night sky at its best. Sadly, we cannot guarantee the clouds won’t block the view, but it will give you a good excuse to come and stay with us again. Grab our outdoor bean bags and the specialist astronomy AstroNZ binoculars - available from Smokie D - to appreciate the night sky.

You will be able to see spectacular views of the moon and larger deep sky objects, like the Andromeda galaxy and the Orion nebula. We will provide you a star map that will give you an indication on what stars and planets are in the sky at the time of your stay
